Student Action!

Sara Baker —

Mrs Middleton and Miss Brown have this year started up our junior Kapa Haka group, which many younger students are enjoying. Two of our wonderful Year 6 students, Libby and Rebecca, had a great idea to both take action and show leadership, and offered to help the teachers with Kapa Haka.

Between them, they have researched and made a slideshow of waiata that the junior Kapa Haka group can learn, and will assist the teachers to teach the children their new songs. Rebecca and Libby will also be publishing a Maori proverb or fact about local Maori iwi and history (in videos that they make) in our daily notices each week. The more we learn, the more empowered we become. Thank you for your leadership girls, we are so proud of the action you are taking! Mauria te pono (believe in yourself)!
In the photo, Libby and Rebecca are each holding one of our Learner Profile attribute pencils. They chose Balanced - Mauritau, and Inquirers - Kai-uiui! These pencils will be installed in the school soon.
