Learning Through Play: Whānau Harakeke Discover Avocado - A Creamy Delight
This week in Learning Through Play, our Year 0/1 students embarked on a sensory exploration of the creamy and versatile world of avocado. Alongside their teachers, we examined avocados up close, feeling the texture of the skin, inhaling their fresh aroma, and marveling at their vibrant green color.
Beyond its sensory appeal, we discussed the numerous health benefits of avocados, including their high content of healthy fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. The children learned how avocados can contribute to a healthy heart, improve digestion, and support overall well-being.
To inspire creativity and healthy eating habits, we explored various ways to incorporate avocados into meals. From the classic guacamole to avocado toast, smoothies, and salads, the children discovered the many delicious and nutritious possibilities.
This hands-on experience allowed the children to appreciate the versatility of avocado while encouraging them to think about the healthy choices they make when adding fruits and vegetables to their meals. It was a fantastic opportunity to introduce new ideas in a fun and engaging way, making avocado the perfect choice for our Fruit of the Week.
