Our Board of Trustees

Milford School —

In partnership with the Principal and teaching staff, the Board of Trustees plays an important role in ensuring that educationally, all children at Milford School are provided with the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The responsibility of the Board is that of governance (control or authority) and an overview of the management of the school. The Board is responsible for ensuring that legal obligations are met and that all resources (people, property, or financial) are managed in compliance with relevant legislation and in the best interests of the school. The Board of Trustees comprises five elected parent trustees, the Principal, and a staff trustee. The elected parent trustees and staff representatives usually serve a three-year term.

The school’s charter and annual plan reflect specific needs and priorities. The Board sets strategic long-term goals, develops and reviews policies, monitors the performance of the Principal and staff, and ensures high-quality curriculum delivery. Daily management of the school is the responsibility of the Principal. The Board is not involved with the day-to-day management of school activities.

Annual Report

The annual report is one of two key accountability documents that boards of trustees are required to use to inform and report to stakeholders such as the Ministry of Education, Members of Parliament, and, most importantly, parents and the wider school community.

The annual report contains the annual financial statements that show how the Board has applied its financial resources to achieve its charter goals.

The annual report also contains an analysis of variance between the planned aims, objectives, directions, priorities, or targets and what the school actually achieved during the year.
