Principal's Message

Sue Cattell —

Kia ora whānau. This morning we had three of our contributing early childhood centres come to Milford School and enjoy a concert our school orchestra and Junior Kapa Haka put on for them. Our Year 0 and 1 children joined them and it was very special. These connections are important and really help the transition of the children from ECE to school. A huge thank you to Eugenie Middleton for arranging this and preparing our orchestra so well, and to the Year 6 students who lead the Junior Kapa Haka - they were impressive!

It has been a week full of numbers as we celebrated Maths Week throughout the school. As I told many students, maths is my favourite curriculum area and I love it so much I even married a maths teacher!! I hope your children have come home and shared their maths learning with you, and if they haven’t, perhaps ask them today.

Most of you will receive your Board of Trustee voting forms shortly, if you haven’t already, from our Returning Officer, Sam. These were posted earlier in the week and votes MUST be received in the school office by 4pm on Wednesday 7 September. There is a box in the office that you can put your vote into. Any votes received that were postmarked prior to the close-off date will also be counted. These timelines are set by the School Trustees Association and we must adhere to them. We were very excited to see 8 nominations for the 5 positions!

As you know, we hold our year-level led assemblies on the Fridays of each even-week of the term (Week 2, 4 etc). This term we are due to have the Year 5-led assembly in Week 6, but due to other events that week it has been moved to Week 5.

We know that at times pick-up arrangements change during the day and you need to let your child know about this. Please go through Sam in the office rather than emailing the teacher as they are not always able to check emails during the day as they are teaching/on duty etc. Sam will ring the classroom and let them know.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Ngā mihi

Sue
