Nourishing Communities

Ellen von Collas and Jillian Sommers —

The plants don't know we're in lockdown. They just keep on doing what they do best: growing! With the warmer weather and lots of rain, our Gardening Club vegetables have grown wonderfully.

Since we cannot be back at school to enjoy our club-grown vegetables, Mrs Sommers and Mrs von Collas thought it would be a good idea to donate our cabbages and silverbeet to people who really need food.

Kiwi Harvest rescues more than 170,000 kgs of good quality, surplus food each month and passes it on to people who are struggling to provide food for their families. By rescuing unwanted food, they also keep it from going to waste. Have a look at the photos below to see the positive impact that KiwiHarvest has on our communities and the environment.

On Wednesday this week, Janice from KiwiHarvest met Mrs Sommers in our gardens to collect silverbeet and cabbages before the caterpillars could eat them. Janice was very grateful and said that "The cupboard was bare!" We hope our food will benefit families in need and they will enjoy our delicious vegetables that have been grown with love.
