TOO MANY LATE CHILDREN

Linda Vane —

I have noticed over these last few weeks that there are increasing numbers of children coming to school late. The bell goes at 8.55am, when all children should be in class ready for roll call. Your child is at risk when they either walk to school after this time or get dropped off. There is a teacher on duty outside the school on the crossing from 8.30am until 9.00am making sure each child is safe. After this they move to class closing the safety gate as they do so.

Over the last few weeks I have noticed:

  • Children who are dropped off across the road from the school running across the crossing without looking.
  • Individuals wandering slowly down the road towards school on their own.
  • Arriving at school and cannot reach the gate lock to get inside.
  • Signing in at the office which makes them even later to class.

All children are asked to be at school by 8.45 at the latest . This means they are arriving with many other children and are not vulnerable on their own. They are being supervised when crossing the very busy road and they have time to prepare for the day.

Please ensure you are getting your child to school by 8.45 am at least for their own safety.
