Principal's Message
Kia ora whānau. On Tuesday I hosted a group of Principals from other Auckland schools here at our school. As part of their time here, they walked through our classrooms and around our school. I always get excited to see our learners and what they are doing and it made me very proud to hear the other principals comment about how amazing and articulate our children are. They also commented on the relationship between the children and myself as the children greeted me excitedly, easily and confidently. Our learners are amazing and being reminded of how special they are was the highlight of my week!
The photo above was taken when Bernie, from Give a Kid a Blanket, came and met with our student kaiārahi to collect the mountain of blankets and clothing donated. Thank you for your generosity, as always. On his Facebook page he gave our school a shout out as this is the fifth year we have been supporting this cause. The PJ and onesie day also raised over $700 which he was very grateful for.
One of our students who has achieved success recently is Siobhan Pitt. Siobhan represented Milford School in a recent diving competition. She came 7th, one of only 10 to receive a gold ribbon! What makes this even more remarkable is that she has only been diving for 7 weeks and was able to do a straight dive of 3 metres and scored a 10 for her back tuck dive! Well done Siobhan!
Thank you to the parents who attended the Parent information Evening on Tuesday. We began the evening with a presentation from Pauline and Ana from Linewize, via zoom, about the community hub. They talked us through what parents can access to help keep their children safe online and what to do if your child experiences any online bullying. They also shared pages on the hub where you can read about any app your child may wish to use, along with a review of the app, ages it is suitable for, and any dangers. We recorded the zoom and you can view it here. We then explained the new online reporting system through Hero and what you can expect as parents. A letter that also explained this system was sent home yesterday to all families. This included a link to the presentation we used which is also attached here.
I hope you have all booked in your Parent/Teacher/Student meeting time for Wednesday (6 July). A reminder that school finishes at 12.30pm that day so the teachers can begin the meetings at 1pm. Please use the SkoolLoop app to book your meeting time.
School finishes for the term next Friday, 8 July at the usual time of 3pm. We will be treated to the Year 2 assembly that day at 2.15pm and all Year 2 whānau are warmly invited.
E waka eke noa (we are all in this together)
Sue
