Principal's Message

Lucy Naylor —

I am delighted to be writing this first newsletter as principal of Milford School. It is a privilege to have been given the opportunity to lead such a high-performing school with such a strong sense of community.

Needless to say, it has been an ‘interesting’ start to the school year, and one that nobody could have predicted. The silver lining is that I have got to know the staff very quickly, whether it was while mopping, moving furniture, or watching floors dry out. They are a truly dedicated staff and have been fully committed to ensuring we hit the ground running and are well-prepared to continue to deliver quality learning programs. I have also learned about all the exciting programs the school has on offer. It is indeed a hive of activity and a rich learning environment.

It was fantastic to meet the children this week, and I am looking forward to getting to know them and discovering more about what makes Milford School special. I have been impressed with their confidence in sharing their learning and understanding themselves as learners.

The school has strong home-school connections, and I am keen to meet parents and whanau in the coming weeks. So if you see me around the school, please do come and introduce yourself, and I will do my best to remember names and which child/ren belong to you!

No doubt the flood events have impacted many of our families and our community as a whole. It has been a traumatic time for many, and I hope the children returning to school will bring some routine and structure in these turbulent times. If you are concerned about the impact on your child/ren I encourage you to let your child’s teacher know so we can support and nurture them.

Teacher Only Day

Please take note that the first day of Term 2, Monday 24 April, is a Pupuke Kahui Ako Teacher only day. Tuesday 25 April is Anzac Day, so school will be open for instruction from Wednesday 27 April.

He aha te mea nui o te ao
What is the most important thing in the world?

He tangata, he tangata, he tangata
It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.

Nga mihi
