Principal's Message - Dandelions and Orchids

by Lucy Naylor

Assemblies are the week's highlight for many students, a time to share their learning with their peers and whānau. Last week's Year 3 assembly certainly illustrated this – the children's pleasure in sharing their learning was palpable. After years and months of disrupted schooling, it was fantastic to see children thriving in an environment where they feel safe to express themselves.

Library Report

by Tracey Eriksen

At the end of term 1 Milford School students enjoyed Literacy Week. There were many activities and events happening around the school, one of which was a daily treasure hunt! Many children participated each lunchtime in finding hidden pictures around the school based on a written clue left in the daily notices. All students who found each of the five daily clues were put in a draw to win a book of their choice. While wishing we could have presented each and every student with a prize, Mrs. Naylor happily drew five names out of the hat. So finally, after slight delivery delays, I can now present to you our five awesome winners. Congratulations go to Kristy, Ellen, Sophia, Hudson and Jake! Ka hari te panui! Happy Reading!

Year 0/1 Learner Profile certificates

by Beverley Smith

The learner profile attribute for the next two weeks is being balanced. Being balanced means finding harmony and maintaining a healthy equilibrium in various aspects of life, such as academic pursuits, physical well-being, social interactions, and emotional growth. For children in Year 1, this means that we look after our mind, our body, and our emotions. We try to stay happy and healthy by choosing good, healthy food, doing lots of physical activities, and getting enough rest and sleep so that we can do our best at all times. This week, the following students received certificates: Hannah and Sathwik (Room 17), Azaria and Justin (Room 16), Zachary and Clemmie (Room 15), Isabelle and Cove (Room 14), Isabella and Carter (Room 13). Congratulations also Spencer in Room 16 who received the Open-minded certificate last week in Room 16.

MUSIC NEWS

by Eugenie Middleton

Congratulations to Olivia, who has won the MAP International Music Competition 2023 competition at the category of string Violin, in the group 8-10. This is a huge achievement and well deserved. Olivia is also a wonderful Milford School student, who always comes and asks if she can help set up music equipment and stays behind to pack away any music gear that requires putting away. She is a very principled and respectful pupil at Milford School. Congratulations Olivia on your hard-earned success!

Rippa Rubgy Tournament

by Danielle Nicholson

36 students represented Milford School in one of two Rippa and Rugby tournaments yesterday. The sun was shining, the day was warm, and there were plenty of smiles! We had three rippa rugby teams and a tackle rugby team who played four games each. All students played hard and fair with some amazing tries witnessed. Some students had never played rippa rugby before this day and on reflection of the day said it was their new favourite sport! We are looking forward to our second day of the tournament next term. A big thank you to the parents, caregivers and grandparents who supported the day. Also a special shout out to Zac and George who coached our Year 3/4 girls' team.

Room 10/ Room 14 Buddy Class

by Jessica Han

Our buddy class sessions are always highly anticipated by our students, and this particular session was no exception! Room 10 took on the role of storytellers as they read captivating picture books to our little buddies, Room 14. It was a joyous sight to witness the enthusiasm and anticipation in the room as our big buddies settled down with their little buddies and read to them. The big buddies read with great expression and varied tones, bringing the stories to life. They skillfully used their voices to portray different characters and engage their little buddies in the tales! It was evident that the little buddies thoroughly enjoyed listening to their big buddies' storytelling skills. We look forward to more exciting experiences ahead!
