Principal's Message

by Sue Cattell

Kia ora whānau. Our Year 4 team had the first of this year’s school EOTC days, with trips to Long Bay Regional Park this week. They had a great learning experience with students learning safety practices while outdoors. They learned how to survive in the outdoors and developed personal and social skills through a series of challenges. Working with a variety of students across two classes, meant they developed their social and communication skills also.

Our Year 1s are Learning through Play

by Melanie Dixon

Our Year 1 students are great inquirers as they engage in our Learning through Play sessions on the field. We have been using lots of loose parts for the children to develop social skills; collaborating, communicating and negotiating with their peers as they investigate ways to use the equipment. Here are some of the things our children have enjoyed this week.

Two's Day in the Hive

by Paula Snowball

The Hive had a great day on Tuesday 2.2.22. We had fun with this striking pattern of twos. During fitness we found lots of things we could do for 22 seconds. In Maths we created number sentences for 22 and we were pretty creative!! During Literacy, we wrote a class shared story with only 22 words. We used some story dice to help us which was funny. It was quite challenging keeping it to 22 words as we had more to say!! We are looking forward to celebrating 3.3.33 in eleven years time!

Buddy classes

by Melanie Dixon

Each week, Room 11 and Room 15 join together as Buddy classes to play games, participate in a variety of learning activities, develop new skills and make new friends. The children in Room 15 are enjoying spending time with their new learning buddies and it is heartwarming to see how the children in Room 11 are supporting their young friends as they learn and play together. Here are some photos of us sharing books in the shade of the trees. It was a lovely way to end another busy school week.

YEAR 4 Trip Report

by Danielle Nicholson

Year 4 enjoyed their trip to Long Bay earlier this week. Attending this EOTC trip at the beginning of the year helps to strengthen class relationships, as well as allowing students to work with a range of their peers across two classes. We learned all about native New Zealand birds and trees, outdoor survival skills, and how to work together as a team. On this trip, students pitched tents, cooked sausages, learned safety practices when tramping and what to do if things go wrong in the bush. We learned about some of the vital skills for surviving in the outdoors and developed personal and social skills through a series of challenges.

Gardening Club Update

by Iris Leng

After a long wait over the summer, the Gardening Club tamariki finally got to harvest the potatoes. In the first 3 weeks, the children weeded the gardens, watered the plants, and diligently checked on the crops to see if any tomatoes, beans and corns could be harvested. Our wonderful parent helper, Charlotte, also worked with the tamariki to repot some flowers for the butterfly house. We can't wait to see the flowers blossom and to refresh the gardens with new plants.
