Principal's Message

by Sue Cattell

Kia ora whānau. Last Friday evening a group of Milford School dancers took to the stage at Westlake Girls High School to compete in the National Dance Challenge. They performed superbly, and not only won their division but were crowned Primary School of the Year! These girls have put hours into practices, but what makes this win even more special, is that they choreographed most of it themselves. They are a dedicated, committed group and it was a privilege to be there with them. Congratulations to Addison, Katelyn, Georgia, Rylee, Olive, Sophia F, Sophia R, Louisa, Maria, McKenzie, Amelia, Harper, Mina and Aria.

PJ/Onesie Day

by Kaiārahi

What fun coming to school in your pj's. The whole school was fizzing today as the children enjoyed being in their warm pj's and onesies. There were unicorns, Pokemon, Spiderman, Paw Patrol, bears, dinosaurs, and more. All money raised today will go to Give a Kid a Blanket so they can purchase extra items. Thank you also for the donations of blankets, pyjamas, and other items. These will all be passed on when Bernie comes with his van next week to collect them. Your support is much appreciated!

'Roadblocks to Communication' - parent workshop event! Thursday 23 June at 7 pm in the Milford School staffroom

by Sara Baker

Whether you have teenagers already, or will have teenagers at some point in the future, this parent workshop is for you! Melanie Medland, from Beautiful Conversations, will be speaking on how we as parents communicate with our children and how this works (or doesn't work) for you when they become teenagers. With the rates of anxiety and depression increasing in teenagers, deepening our relationships and communication skills with our older children is essential to their wellbeing.

FOMS Fundraising

by Admin

Yes folks, it is that time again, "Milford School Wants You" to help fundraise for a long overdue upgrade to the Year 3 & 4 playground. We are excited to announce that we have been given the opportunity to sell boxes of Whittakers chocolate bars. Past chocolate sales have shown that this is a quick, easy, yet very profitable fundraising exercise ... so let's get this done and brighten up the Playground for the Year 3s and 4s!

ESOL Report

by Sara Baker

Our ELL Learners Inquiring into Sharing the Planet. This group of knowledgeable and inquiring learners came to see me this week to show me their English language vocabulary development. As part of their Sharing the Planet inquiry, they have been learning to pronounce new words and investigating meaning to assist them in their classrooms. I am so proud of how fearless these learners are, coming to a school where English is a developing language for them. They are risk-takers, and are so motivated and engaged in their learning. Tino pai tamariki!

Fun Friday in Year 0/1

by Beverley Smith

Every Rāmere, all the Year 0 and Year 1 tamariki come together for a team hui. At this gathering, we sing some action songs or waiata, we learn new Te Reo words, and we acknowledge our fantastic learners who displayed the Learner Profile attributes. After this, each teacher offers a fun craft activity and the students can choose any one of these to do before they can do some fun, free-choosing activities. At this time, the students have opportunities to work with other teachers, as well as students from other classes. Working with other teachers and other students helps develop open-mindedness and risk-taking, as the children are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone, and attempt something they would not usually do. You may wish to talk with your child about what they did for Fun Friday, and who they worked with at this time.

Year 1 Report

by Danelle Patching

The Year 1 tamariki have been working hard during our Fun Friday sessions for the last 3 weeks making our very own korowai. We used vivid and dye on the paper feathers and Miss Patching and Miss Wildman worked together to create our beautiful korowai. This is proudly on display in Room 14 and we would love for you to come and have a look at our hard work.

Room 15 Report

by Melanie Dixon

In Room 15 we have been talking about how we are all unique and have our own special talents and qualities which we bring to the classroom. We love that each of us play a special part of our classroom and are respectful of everyone's different ideas, opinions, skills and passions. We are celebrating our differences and are proud to be who we are. Indi Wigg made this lovely picture for me which sums up this message beautifully I think.

Dance Group Success

by Paula Snowball

Addison and Katelyn organised a group of dancers to compete in the National Dance Challenge competition. The girls worked really hard, giving up lots of lunchtimes and some weekends to learn and perfect their dance, 'I'm in Love with a Monster'. Last Friday evening they performed at Westlake Girls Event Centre, competing in the Primary School Jazz section. They were so amazing!!! They looked gorgeous, danced really well and looked like they were having great fun.

Rock Band News 🎧

by Eugenie Middleton

The rock band was very lucky to be invited to play for the Friday lunch live concert at WGHS. They performed two songs - Viva la Vida and Hotel Alabama to a wonderful audience of supportive teenage girls and staff. I was so impressed with their confidence and skill when performing to such a big audience. They got lots of cheers from their fans! Watch this space as we now might start a Friday lunch live at Milford School! A great, informal way for students to perform in front of their peers.
