Principal’s Message

by Sue Cattell

Kia ora koutou katoa. You are amazing!! We sold an incredible number of books at the Book Fair last week, just over $8000 worth. This means that our Library has an extra $2800 of vouchers coming its way. Our Librarian uses these vouchers to purchase books for the Library, and that’s a lot of books. So again, thank you!!

Matariki Day by Year 3

by Ellen von Collas

To celebrate Matariki, the Year 3 children enjoyed a rotation of activities throughout the day on Tuesday. In Room 21, with Miss Armstrong, we created beautiful silhouettes of the matariki night sky, being careful to show all 9 stars of Matariki, not just 7 as we've previously thought. In Room 20, with Miss Patching, we expressed our creativity, making stunning celebration kites using all kinds of materials. We even got to test them out. Some were a little heavier than others, weighed down by our fabulous collage materials. In Room 19, with Mrs von Collas, we learned how to make a pinch pot, using clay. These will dry over the holidays and get fired in a kiln after the holidays. We can't wait to get them back so we can paint them and show them to our families.

Year 4 Matariki Celebration

by Charlotte Barrance

Matariki is the Māori name for a star constellation that rises up into the southern skies in mid-winter. This signals an important time in the New Zealand calendar - the Māori New Year. Matariki is seen as a time to reflect on the year past and look to the future as a time for growth and change.

Road safety

by Melanie Dixon

Over the holiday break, it might be a great time to reinforce safety on the roads for your child if they walk, ride or scooter to school. We want all our students to be safe citizens, and know the rules of the road and how to stay safe when getting to and from school. Please read the information below and click on the link provided by NZTA.

We are very grape-ful.

by Grace Osborne

Year 5 would like to say a very big thank you to a special group of people who have made Garden to Table possible for us this term! Firstly, to Alicia and Nic, our garden and kitchen specialists who plan and run our sessions each week. We have really enjoyed getting muddy in the garden, weaving flax flowers and harvesting kumara, pumpkins and much more. We have become a lot more confident using the sharp knives and have created some delicious dishes including warming winter curries.

Conservation Club Report

by Nicole Brown

This week was our last of the term for Conservation Club. Here is a shot of our Kiwi guardians doing the annual NZ Garden Bird Survey this week with our nature journals that we made earlier this term. We selected the field as our survey location and found a comfortable spot to look and listen for birds for one hour. Then, we recorded the highest number of each species observed, and submitted our results. The NZ Garden Bird Survey is vital because it tells us about the health of our environment. The annual survey is the country's longest running citizen science project.
