Kia ora e te whānau. It is wonderful to be celebrating the learning we are seeing from our tamariki! A huge thanks go to all our Milford School staff who are continuing to work hard to ensure the students are still engaged in their learning, keeping connections with their teachers and friends, and in many other ways behind the scenes.

MUSIC IN LOCKDOWN - CONSERVATION WEEK

by Eugenie Middleton

This week in music we have been making instruments out of recycled materials at home for conservation week. There have been some amazing posts on seesaw and I have made some of them into a movie for us all to watch. We are very very creative, responsive, clever communicators at Milford School. I have been absolutely so impressed with the reflective process you have gone through to design and make your instruments look and sound incredible. What Talent! It is a must watch!!

MILFORD SCHOOL ACTION GROUPS

by Eugenie Middleton

At Milford School, we are developing student agency through our various actions groups. At the start of lockdown, I reached out to the Dance Action Group to choreograph some dances for the younger children to learn. Anameika Yeoman in Year 6 jumped to the challenge and choreographed a fantastic dance. She is a wonderful communicator and has developed a lot of agentic skills.

Budding Poets

by Ellen von Collas

Perhaps it is something to do with the change in season, but plants are not the only things budding this spring. In Year 3 we have had a bit of a focus on poetry recently: lockdown cinquains, spring poems, poems that focus on onomatopoeia and poems that look at life from the perspective of a tree. We certainly have some budding poets in the making. Have a look at some examples from Room 19. Hopefully they will inspire you to put pen to paper too.

Room 16 Report

by Beverley Smith

To kick off the start of Conservation week this week, Room 16 students wore something green to their zoom meeting on Monday morning. This week, we endeavoured to show the Learner Profile Attribute of being a Caring learner. Being Caring means that we care about people, plants and the earth. We help others and look after the environment. Some of the activities we have done this week was the Young Ocean Explorer's challenge to pick up rubbish, we built a lizard garden or a bug hotel, we used some things in nature to create art and we even visited the zoo and saw some of the animals using the zoo cam. What an exciting week we had!

Year 6 ESOL Online Learning

by Gordana Stanojevic

The students have read about William Shakespeare, watched a short video and had an opportunity to explore the significance of Shakespeare's influence to English language and literature. The teacher has created a template for this slideshow, with picture clues from the video clip. The students were then directed to create their own version, write a short blurb about each picture and communicate their ideas, as well as their graphic design skills. We would like to share Melissa Kim's work in this week's newsletter. Melissa, Room 1 has demonstrated many of the Learner Profile Attributes and is a great, knowledgeable communicator and inquirer. Well done, Melissa.

Te Reo Online Resources for Lockdown Learning

by Admin

Te Reo Club is a one-stop place for whānau (family) and kaiako (teachers) who are looking for a variety of simple yet useful resources. It is a community of people who are aiming to learn and use te reo Māori everyday and teach the language to their tamariki (children). The emphasis is hands on, printable, parent friendly resources – an economical way of buying teaching resources. We are pretty excited to offer whānau school-quality resources and hope you will love the availability, variety and quality.

Don't forget that Milford School is a collection & recycle point for all Ecostore sugar bottles (I know that they look like plastic, but they aren't!) and Oral Hygiene products - all toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes as well as floss containers, electric toothbrush heads and mouthwash bottles. Please collect these up while at home and bring them into school once we return to Level 2. Many Thanks - Enviro Group
