TerraCycle Product Recycling Programme

by Ellen von Collas

I would like to extend a big THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed products to our various TerraCycle Recycling Programmes over the years. We've had Glad wrap & Glad bag recycling, Dolce Gusto coffee capsule recycling, used writing instrument recycling, and the longest lasting has been our used oral hygiene products recycling programme. Every contribution you have made has kept items out of landfill, which has lessened your carbon footprint and helped to keep Papatūānuku, Mother Earth, healthier.

This week's certificates were awarded to Jason and Arya (Room 13), Lilia and David (Room 14), Ashley and Gianna (Room 15), Elvan and Emma (Room 16), and Austin and Jordy (Room 17). Congratulations to these wonderful learners.

Learning in Room 16

by Beverley Smith

This week we have been learning about the letter r with Miss Browne, our student teacher. We learned the name of the letter, the sound it makes, and how to write it correctly. We also thought of lots of things that start with the letter r, like rhino, robot, red, and run. We made rockets for our craft activity which is being displayed in our classroom.

Gardening Cub News

by Iris Leg

The gardeners worked busily in the garden on Thursday lunchtime. Our focus this week was to refresh the herb garden. The rosemary cuttings we made last term successfully rooted and they were planted into individual pots. We also planted new herbs, including sage, chives, oregano, marjoram... The labels we made during our rainy session last week came in handy!

Room 5 Report

by Bev Boyd

Room 5's Knitting Club has begun. It is a great way to use our lunchtime and chat with new friends. Improving our fine motor skills will flow onto our handwriting skills and maybe even our basic facts speed. Well, that's what our teacher thinks. If anyone has wool that they could donate to Room 5 it would be very much appreciated.

Rippa Rugby Tournament

by Danielle Nicholson

On Thursday the 2nd of June, almost 60 children attended the Rippa Rugby tournament held at Onewa Domain. The children, parents and teacher braced themselves for a wet, muddy day. Our students demonstrated sportsmanship and most were so keen to continue playing despite the yucky weather! Our next tournament is on the 4th of August.

'Roadblocks to Communication' - parent workshop event! Thursday 23 June at 7 pm in the Milford School staffroom

by Sara Baker

Whether you have teenagers already, or will have teenagers at some point in the future, this parent workshop is for you! Melanie Medland, from Beautiful Conversations, will be speaking on how we as parents communicate with our children and how this works (or doesn't work) for you when they become teenagers. With the rates of anxiety and depression increasing in teenagers, deepening our relationships and communication skills with our older children is essential to their wellbeing.
