Principal’s Message

by Sue Cattell

One of the amazing benefits of being in our Kāhui Ako (Community of Learning) are the connections we make with other schools, and it is even more special when we can come together with shared music. On Tuesday night, we were part of the Pupuke Kāhui Ako Music Gala Evening at WBHS. Our orchestra, led by our amazingly talented Eugenie Middleton, took to the stage and certainly did us proud. They were great ambassadors for our school and I was very proud to be there as their Principal. The videos taken of their performance are at the end of this section. A big thank you to Eugenie and to the Orchestra!!

KAHUI AKO MUSIC GALA CONCERT

by Eugenie Middleton

On Tuesday night the Milford School Orchestra performed in front of a very large audience at WBHS as part of the COL music concert. They were outstanding in attitude, performance etiquette and playing. I was so so so proud to be their music teacher!! Thank you to all the parents who came and supported their children. What a wonderful opportunity for the children to see what opportunities they have in the future.

Neptune's necklace, stichaster australis starfish, cushion star, hermit crabs, sea urchins, fan worms, pipis, cockles, mussels, screw shells, ostrich foot shells, and many, many more. Our Year 3 biodetectives got up close and personal, using state-of-the-art detecting technology: the 9x magnifying stamp loupe magnifying glass. It is amazing what you notice when you stop, breathe and focus.

by Danielle Nicholson

Last week, six teams from Year 3 - 6 represented Milford at the Rippa and Tackle Rugby Festival, held at Sunnynook Park. The weather was perfect for a day of rugby and all students represented Milford School wonderfully. There were wins, losses and draws, but most importantly - all players put in their best effort and enjoyed themselves!

LEARNER PROFILE HERO!

by Sara Baker

Congratulations to Lexi in Year 3 who took part in the Halberg Manaakitanga Sports Day last week. Lexi showed that she is a real risk-taker, and open-minded, as she took on fun and challenging sports for the day. The sports included new games that most of us haven't tried before, and Lexi was a very enthusiastic participant, who gave 110% effort in the way she approached these new challenges. Lexi, we are incredibly proud of you and your drive to do your best!

by Danielle Nicholson

Last week, both the Year 6/1 and Year 6/2 netball teams competed in the Year 6 Netball Tournament held at Netball North Harbour. Both teams represented Milford wonderfully, putting in their best effort for the day. We are very proud of both teams, who each placed 3rd in their pools. The Year 6/2 team won their semi-final to take on the 5th place position in C Grade. Congratulations to all players and a big thank you to all supporters and parents who helped on the day.

Room 9 Report

by Jessica Vader

As part of our work on The Resilience Project, Room 9 learned to identify and describe various emotions, further developing their emotional literacy. They role-played a scenario using their masks, and inferred emotions based on body language, facial expressions and tone of voice. Another great lesson from The Resilience Project!

Hide & Tweet Bird Boxes

by Michelle Clark

Last week Mr. Jury put up four bird boxes around the school - these were part of a “Hide & Tweet” exhibit around Smales Farm during the last school holidays. Our School Enviro Group designed two of the boxes and the other two have been donated to our school by local artists. Take a look around and see if you can spot them… Don’t touch them as we want the birds to feel safe and make them their homes!

Reading Buddies

by Michelle Clark

This year we have started a very exciting joint initiative working closely with Westlake Girls High School to support our students in a reading mileage programme. We have buddied a Milford School student with a Westlake girl who supports their buddy with reading. In each session they read together, forming not only a regular reading pairing, but also someone that they can build a relationship and bond with throughout the sessions. We are midway through the programme now, and the children are enjoying their Thursday morning sessions. We hope to continue this initiative until the end of Term 3.
