STEM - Science at Home!

by Morgan McKeen

This week Miss McKeen shared one of her favourite science experiments with the Year 5&6, growing rock candy! It only requires two ingredients - sugar and water! If you have food colouring, it's even better. Check out Miss McKeen's video if you would like to give this a go.

Musical Games on Zoom

by Grace Osborne

This week Room 12 was very lucky and had a visitor join our daily Zoom call - Mrs Middleton. We went on a scavenger hunt to find things around our houses that could be musical instruments. We found things that shake including salt, popcorn and cereal, and used pens and wooden spoons for drum sticks! We listened, danced and played along to songs with our instruments - it was great fun!

Milford Student on TV3'sThe Project 📺

by Admin

Zach Griffin was on TV3s The Project on Wednesday night. They set a challenge to recreate something you miss about lockdown. Zach, along with his brother Ryder, created the clip seen below. They did this all on their own and then asked their mum to send it in. Well done boys! Hopefully soon we will be able to get back to enjoying our favourite outdoor activities.

Room 19 Zupdate

by Ellen von Collas

We've been finding different ways to connect with each other over our Zoom calls. We've worn silly hats or dressed up, brought our pet or favourite soft toy to the meeting, worn our pyjamas, had a scavenger hunt around the house, shared a poem, and shared jokes. Here are a few jokes shared by the children in Room 19:

ESOL Report

by Gordana Stanojevic

ESOL ZOOM classes for Year 5 and 6 have been running smoothly during the Lockdown. We have had so much fun playing Scavenger Hunt. The task for all students (after getting a vegetable peeler) was to get their school uniform tops and then to put them on. Everyone enjoyed it. We all pretended we were at school. Everyone misses seeing their friends and enjoying a real school life. Hopefully, not far from now:) Featuring in this photo are R1 ESOL students Nicole, Malika, Melissa, Kimi and Felix, also our lovely ELA Tracye Eriksen and Mrs. S

Year 0/1 Zoom Meeting

by Beverley Smith

On Monday 30 August 2021, all the Year 0 and 1 students joined together for a Musical Monday zoom meeting. We had more than 60 enthusiastic children (some with their siblings and their whanau) in this zoom meeting. Together we did a karakia and sang some of our favourite songs, including some production songs. It was so great to see many smiling faces and hear their beautiful singing voices again. We look forward to our next Musical Monday zoom meeting.

Netball 2021

by Beverley Smith

As expected, all remaining netball games that were scheduled for the rest of Term 3 has now been cancelled. Thankfully we were able to enjoy a fairly uninterrupted season and the players have had nearly all of their scheduled games (there were only 2 games left to play). I am confident that new skills were learned, and that the sport has gained many more enthusiastic players.

Recycling Options at School

by Michelle Clark

Don't forget that Milford School is a collection & recycle point for all Ecostore sugar bottles (I know that they look like plastic, but they aren't!) and Oral Hygiene products - all toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes as well as floss containers, electric toothbrush heads and mouthwash bottles. Please collect these up while at home and bring them into school once we return to Level 2. Many Thanks - Enviro Group

Te Reo Online Resources for Lockdown Learning

by Admin

Te Reo Club is a one-stop place for whānau (family) and kaiako (teachers) who are looking for a variety of simple yet useful resources. It is a community of people who are aiming to learn and use te reo Māori everyday and teach the language to their tamariki (children). The emphasis is hands on, printable, parent friendly resources – an economical way of buying teaching resources. We are pretty excited to offer whānau school-quality resources and hope you will love the availability, variety and quality.
