Principal’s Message

by Sue Cattell

What a fantastic week we have had with the launch of The Resilience Project. A special thank you to the many parents who attended the parent session last night that Hugh (the Project founder) led. In listening to his presentations this week, I couldn’t help but think how lucky we are to be one of the four schools to be involved. Teaching strategies for mental wellness is as important as teaching knowledge, if not more important, as the statistics on mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression, are shocking. We owe it to our students to give them strategies to build resilience, not just for the years they are at school, but for life beyond. They will have trauma at some level at some stage in their lives, we all will, and what this programme does is create habits that will help them to bounce back faster.

Orchestra News 🎼

by Grace Cameron

We may have the best principal ever! She will come and listen to any music if we ask her to. The orchestra group was lucky enough to have Mrs Cattell come and listen to us playing supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. She even had a go at conducting us! She said that the orchestra can pick a piece to put on the bell! We are looking forward to learning new music and playing them.

Enviro

Enviro Group News

by Michelle Clark and Ellen von Collas

Part of being an Enviro School is our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint on our earth. One way we can do this is to reduce the amount of waste we produce, by repurposing or recycling it. Milford School works with TerraCycle in Australia. We have been a community collection hub for oral hygiene products for several years already. We have recently become a community collection hub for writing instrument recycling. That means all pens, whiteboard markers, vivids, mechanical pencils (but not ordinary pencils). For either waste stream, we need to collect a minimum of 5kgs worth of products before we can ship it to Australia. For every item we send, we receive points.

Community Concert - free ticket offer

by Admin

The concert will involve a lot of interaction from the kids, plus there are spot prizes up for grabs. Our goal is to expose as many kids to the different instruments in a wind band as possible, so we have a few free tickets up for grabs to facilitate that, especially for families that may not be able to attend otherwise. We will have 10 free student tickets per school available, so they need to register to get the free tickets. Simply email admin.nsyswb@gmail.com requesting the free tickets, first come first served. Students may be accompanied by an adult, also for free.
