Principal's Message

by Sue Cattell

Kia ora whānau. I often say how much I love my job and I really do. Our lovely students had me very emotional this week as they presented me with their words of thanks for the job I do. The most rewarding part of being the Tumuaki (Principal) are the interactions with the students, and I love how they fill my bucket with their words and actions.

Year 0/1 Learner Profile Attribute

by Beverley Smith

This week we have been looking closely at the Learner Profile Attribute of being Balanced. This means that we look after our mind (brain), our body, and our emotions (feelings). We try to stay happy and healthy by choosing good, healthy food, doing lots of physical activities, getting enough rest and sleep, and doing our best when learning. The students who have received certificates this week are: Zachary and Mateo (Room 18), Ted and Harlow (Room 13), Flynn and Thea (Room 14), Lucas and Ashleigh (Room 15), Caden and Bryn (Room 16), and Austin and Natalie (Room 17). Congratulations to these Balanced students.

100 Days of school

by Beverley Smith

Thankfully we have had no interruptions or lockdowns this year, so this week we celebrated being at school for 100 days. Rooms 14, 15, 16 and 17 students brought 100 units of a chosen item to show and share with their class. We also made headbands and wore them proudly throughout the day to show that we are 100 days smarter.

Melanie and Maia came to visit me today to show me their amazing writing skills. Through the structured literacy programme, our youngest students learn to identify sounds in words, and how to manipulate sounds to make and break words. These two learners are well on their way to becoming literate and effective learners. Tino pai nga tamariki!

Year 1 is learning to Reuse and Recycle!

by Sara Baker

Ashley, Taylor, and Hunter have been very creative and have shown how they care for the planet by creating these incredible sculptures! Ashley's dog used deodorant cans, boxes, and parts of the coffee lid, Taylor used boxes, string, and egg cartons for her dinosaur, and Hunter used egg cartons, an oat milk box, and tin foil to make a family in their car. They have learned that it is so important to recycle or reuse materials that might otherwise go to landfill, and it's fun to be so creative. Mahi pai tamariki!
