Principal’s Message

by Sue Cattell

Kia ora koutou katoa. Wow! A huge thank you to all of you who gave to Carter and Misha’s collection for Give a Kid a Blanket! Once again, the generosity of our community is humbling, especially in these unusual times. When Bernie, the charity lead, saw the huge pile, he was impressed. A big thank you to these Year 6 students, Carter Howarth and Mischa Moreton, for coming to me with this idea – you embody what we are striving for – to empower young people to want to make a difference. This collection does make a difference, and especially so this year as many face tougher times than usual. To each of you who gave something, please know that it does matter, it is important. If you couldn’t this year, perhaps you will be able to next year. If anyone missed the collection and still wants to donate an item, you can drop them in at the school office and they will be collected.

Milford School Children take Action

by Paula Snowball

Some amazing children from Milford School took it upon themselves to do some fundraising for the SPCA, selling yummy homemade lemonade. They didn't even let the rain stop them! They made $34.80 and gave it to the SPCA. People thought they were amazing. What a special thing to do.They really display the PYP Learner Profile attribute of Caring, showing a personal commitment to service, and making a positive difference to the lives of others. We are so proud of you all. Well done Jack, Mina, Ruby, Miriam and Chloe.

Our Week of Words is next week!

by Nirelle Armstrong

Next week we will be celebrating all things Literacy during Our Week of Words. Throughout the week, there will be various activities the children will be able to take part in, including visits from guest authors. During the author visits, children will be able to gain valuable insights into what it means to be an author, and how authors work to engage their readers. Guest authors include Vasanti Unka for Year 0-3, and James Russell for Years 4-6. These are well known authors who we think will really inspire the children.

Head Lice

by Admin

At the moment, we have some head lice in the school, and these can quickly spread if not treated. It is a good idea to do regular checks of your children's hair to ensure the spread of head lice is stopped. Head lice are sometimes hard to see, so thorough checks are necessary. If your child has the lice and/or nits (the eggs that cling to the hair shafts), please treat them immediately with appropriate treatments available from chemists.

Making snow in Year 1!

by Nicole Brown

As it has been getting colder in Auckland, we have been doing lots of investigating about the effects of the winter weather on our school grounds. We have been making observations about the trees and noticed that the leaves are now mostly on the ground and are all different colours. There was also lots of discussion about how cold it needs to be for snow to fall and we know that it snows in Wanaka, Queenstown, Canada and England during the winter months. Here are some students from Room 16 making their very own snow!

Garden to Table Report

by Michelle Clark

Room 7 had their first Garden to Table sessions since we returned from lockdown. The class were very excited to be back in the garden and kitchen on Tuesday and Thursday this week. On Tuesday the gardeners were busy preparing the garden beds for new planting, turning the compost and planting a few seedlings and bulbs, while in the kitchen the groups were cutting and chopping vegetables for an autumn curry with cauliflower flatbreads.

MAKING CONNECTIONS IN OUR LEARNING!

by Sara Baker

Kaitlyn and Fatimah came to share their connected learning with me last week. The Year 0 and 1 Unit of Inquiry with the trans-disciplinary theme of Sharing the Planet meant they had been inquiring into the sharing of finite resources between humans and other living things. The children had talked about what humans and other living things need to survive, and during play based learning, Kaitlyn and Fatimah had made a bird's shelter/nest with everything a bird would need to live comfortably. There was a nest, water to drink and a place for the bird food. What great inquirers they are, thinking about making connections in their learning and their play! Awesome learning, girls!

Room 9 Report

by Room 9

Our group bid at our Room 9 class auction to give a prize to a support staff member. Our group chose Mrs Jury as someone we are grateful for so we made her a card and gave her some cookies to say thank you. We chose Mrs Jury as she tells us facts and interesting information every week when we go to the library. She also runs craft days for all the students which we really enjoy.
