Principal’s Message

by Sue Cattell

Kia ora! Maths Week has seen our classrooms abuzz with all things Mathematics. An annual highlight for the senior classes is the Mathex competition where teams of four from each of the Year 4-6 classes battle it out with a mix of problem-solving ability and speed. This year the Year 6 division was won by a team from Room 2, in Year 5 it was a Room 5 team, and in Year 4, a Room 9 team. A huge thank you to Linda Vane for organising this.

Mathex Winners:

by Linda Vane

Mathex is a competition whereby teams of four solve up to twenty mathematical problems in a given time frame. It is very noisy and runners have to deliver answers to markers throughout. Teams must work together to solve each problem . A running record is taken and if a team passes on a question they cannot go back and complete it. The winning team is the one with the most points at the end of the given time.

THE DOLLHOUSE:

by Louise Lavulo

We have come to the end of our 2nd week using The Dollhouse to get sporting equipment out during the breaks. The Dollhouse monitors have been working well together to ensure that things run more smoothly as we progress and iron out any potential issues; without these wonderful volunteers, we wouldn't be able to have this great opportunity.

An Auckland University student (and former Milford School pupil), Jack Julian, is continuing to offer an after school coding group. He has run this very successfully for the past two years, as well as in Term 1 and 2 this year. He is looking to work with Year 4-6 students who have a keen interest in this area.
