STRUCTURED LITERACY

The Structured Literacy program is the focus of many conversations. Understanding Structured Literacy | Inclusive Education. We began to trial the integration of certain aspects of this program into our current practices.

Traditionally, MNS has had a well-balanced literacy program which focuses on all the basics from phonics to reading for meaning and comprehension. Essential to us is the inclusion of neurodiverse learners. Equally important is that children maintain a love of reading and see the value and purpose of being great writers.

It then stands to reason that we choose resources that are engaging and motivating. The Ready to Read program has served us well in this sense. We will therefore continue to integrate the Structured Literacy program and resources to add strength to our current practices in particular programs which target our Priority Learners.

As the Structured Literacy program is for Years 1 & 2, the Rimu Team will provide you with updates about our progress.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

MNS is identified as a Community Hub during a disaster. Community Emergency Hub

In a disaster such as a big earthquake, there is likely to be widespread damage to power lines, water pipes, buildings, roads, and phone networks. Emergency services will be dealing with the most urgent matters, so the people you live nearest to will be your most immediate, and ongoing, source of support.

We have seen this in recent events such as Cyclone Gabrielle and the flooding around the North Island. We will all have to pitch in and help each other, at least for the first seven days. Come along to an interactive session at Miramar North School on Thursday 18th May from 6:45pm – 8:15pm, where you will learn more about how to get prepared as individuals, households and as a community. Light refreshments will be provided.
