Am I an Explorer?
This is our whole school inquiry for the year.
We're thrilled to share a preview of the exciting learning journey our tamariki will be embarking on this term as we build a responsible and cooperative community.
Our Big Question This Term: How can we be explorers this year?
This term, our inquiry will focus on building strong foundations for learning and growth, both individually and as a class. We'll be exploring what it means to be part of a community and how we can contribute positively. Our learning is woven around the theme of "Explorers," and we'll be encouraging students to embrace a sense of curiosity and discovery in their learning.
Here's a glimpse of what we'll be learning this term:
Building Connections: We will be focusing on making connections between people within our class and wider community. This will include collaborative activities and discussions about how we can support each other.
Developing Class Culture: We will be actively working together to create a positive and inclusive class culture where everyone feels valued and respected.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi: We will be learning about te Tiriti o Waitangi and its important place in New Zealand culture, helping us understand the history and context of our community.
Expressing Ourselves: We will be encouraging creative expression through a variety of mediums, including music, visual arts, writing, and technology. Students will be learning to represent their ideas in different ways.
Exploring Different Perspectives: We will be learning to consider ideas from different perspectives, fostering empathy and understanding.
Identifying Explorer Traits: We will be researching famous explorers and identifying the qualities that made them successful. This will lead to discussions on how we can be "explorers" in our own learning journey this year. We'll be asking: What do we know about explorers? What qualities do they have?
How You Can Support at Home:
Talk to your child about what they are learning about explorers. Who are they learning about? What qualities do these explorers have?
Encourage your child to think about how they can be an "explorer" in their own lives, both at school and at home.
Discuss the importance of cooperation and respect in a community.
We look forward to sharing more about our learning journey with you throughout the term. Please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.
