Positive Behaviour For Learning Update

Belinda Campbell —

This term students have been introduced to our new school TIKA values: Teamwork - Kotahitanga (Weeks 1-2), Integrity - Ngākau pono (Weeks 3-4), Kindness - Manaakitanga (Weeks 5-6), Achieve - Ako (Weeks 7-8).

In Te Reo Māori, TIKA means “to be correct, true, upright, right, just, fair, accurate, appropriate”.

We have been talking about what each value looks like in our classrooms, at Discovery Times and in the playground. Staff have noticed children using the TIKA values when talking with, and about others. Ka pai MNS!

You could talk to your child about our TIKA values at home, identifying when people in your whānau are showing teamwork, integrity and kindness and when they are working hard to achieve something.

In 2023, we will continue our work on the TIKA values, ensuring the values displayed around school and actively teaching what each value looks like in different areas of our school e.g. in the playground, classroom, hall etc.
