Digital Citizenship/Digital Technologies

Miramar North School —

Last term we mixed all of the children up to rotate around the classes completing different technology challenges. Each workshop had a need for children to follow the technology process to create and build.

This term we are doing something similar but around digital technologies and computational thinking. Children are learning about coding, algorithms, sequencing and debugging. Two workshops are unplugged (without technology) and two are with robotics (Botleys) and using Makey Makey with Scratch on the chromebooks.

Mixing the children up between classes is always a good opportunity for children to work alongside other students in the syndicate. It's also great that they are learning from other teachers as well, especially in the lead up to preparing for classes for 2024.  Teachers are also quietly observing dynamics and looking at potential friendships so that we make informed decisions.

Every Monday we also have syndicate hui, this term we are starting with learning around digital citizenship.  This links to our inquiry about our hauora, having a good balance and keeping ourselves safe online.  Attached are our guiding documents for digital citizenship at MNS.  There is also a helpful parent handout to read as well.
