Overall Teacher Judgements
What are they?
Last term when we had parent conferences, we shared and discussed written reports and where your children are at in relation to the National Curriculum. You may have seen or heard about the acronym OTJ's. OTJ's are overall teacher judgements. This is when your child's teacher makes decisions about where your child is at in relation to reading, writing and maths against our New Zealand Curriculum. The OTJ's tell us whether your child is 'working towards' the expected curriculum level for their age, 'within' the expected curriculum level for their age or 'exceeding' the expected curriculum level for their age in the three key areas. The following diagram shows you that we don't just base our judgements on one test, that we use a variety of ways to get to our OTJ's. We also do school wide and syndicate moderation to ensure consistency between teachers and children.
