Pōhutukawa Homework Expectations

Amanda Scott —

In Pōhutukawa we recognise that many students are involved in extracurricular activities such as dance, drama, music and sports. We also recognise the importance of spending time with friends and family, playing games, going for walks, baking etc. Our aim in Pōhutukawa is to establish and develop independent study habits, foster a positive attitude to home learning, and to make use of the learning resources at home and within the community.

Students are encouraged to read every night for 20-30 minutes. We encourage students to read across a range of reading material and genre. Students will also receive a set of spelling words from the Essential words lists they are currently working on to practice. We also want to make the most out of our Mathletics subscription and expect each student to complete their Mathletics activities and continue to practise their basic facts.

If students have difficulty completing tasks at home due to reasons such as restraints of resources, finding tasks too challenging or after-school activities, they are encouraged to discuss this with their teacher.
