Belinda Campbell —

What a wild, wet and windy few weeks we’ve had, MNS?! We hope you’re all staying warm and dry! A few bits and pieces from the Home + School team…

Matariki Festival – Saturday 25th June

Our awesome annual MNS Matariki Festival is fast approaching, and there are still hāngī left to purchase! Now in its second year, we have SUCH an awesome afternoon planned with wananga (workshops), our students performing kapa haka and of course, we have our traditionally cooked hāngī. So much work goes into the sourcing and preparation of this hāngī – so PLEASE support us! This is our BIG fundraiser for the term. Please order on Kindo or though Belinda in the office - we sold out last year, so make sure you get in and order. Even if you can’t make it to the wananga, you can still come and collect your hāngī at 5pm.

The hāngī is only possible with the help of our school community. Thank you to those who have volunteered help already. If you’d like to get involved, please let us know - it’s a lot of fun and a really incredible process to be a part of. Google form: https://forms.gle/M3dbnbKerLjifT7V9

A HUGE thank you need to go to our incredible donors. We couldn’t put this event on without their very generous support. Gemma Harrison (Ray White), Annie Newell (Lowe & Co), New World Miramar, Pak n Save Kilbirnie, Strathmore Butchery, Farm Fresh Miramar, and Moore Wilsons – have all so very generously donated the large amount of food items required for our hāngī. We are so incredibly grateful for their support.

If you’d like to know a bit more, check out our fantastic write-up by the Ministry of Education in the latest copy of the Gazette (pages 16-18). Truly a really fantastic celebration!

Working Bee – Miramar North Road Entrance – Sunday 26th June - 10am-12noon

Due to wet weather, we have a date change to the above. One of our aims this year is to give the Miramar North Road entrance some care and attention. It isn’t the main entrance to the school, but it does get used a lot especially as the driveway is out of action.

This area is currently very overgrown, contains thistles and large agapanthus bushes which block the view from the road. We aim to make this pathway area both safer, and more visually appealing for our children and families.

A huge thank you to Bunnings Lyall Bay – who are very generously donating some labour, tools, compost and small plants to help us with this project. We already have a few volunteers but would be lovely to have more – please let us know if you’re keen to help - please contact Nicole at ndenzel@me.com

Thank you, MNS community! Let’s make this pathway area safe and beautiful for our tamariki.

Crazy Hair + Sock Day

What a craaazy fun day at MNS! We loved the enthusiasm shown by students – and teachers, too! Some amazingly zany hairstyles on show…as well as the funky socks! Thanks to New World Miramar for generously donating the ice blocks for our children to enjoy at the end of the day – a lovely way to end a fun day. A total of $445 was raised (thank you, MNS!) which will go towards funding full sets of resources for teachers to use for their class activities – balls, beanbags, hoops, ropes etc.

Inspire Photography Fundraiser

What a success that was! Inspire were amazing to deal with, and the photos of our families were incredible. Thank you to the families that booked time slots – we’ll know the total amount raised once all photo orders are in.

Any queries or ideas are always welcome. Please feel free to approach one of us or send us an email, we’d love to hear from you!
