Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)

Belinda Campbell —

As you may know, Miramar North School started the Positive Behaviour for Learning School-Wide journey this year. PB4L School-Wide helps New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life.

The purpose of PB4L at Miramar North School is to have a consistent approach for building positive behaviours and relationships. This will positively impact the learning and hauora of all, and lead to confident, lifelong learners who show community spirit and service.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback last term about the values that you feel are most important for students at Miramar North School.

We have reflected on the survey results, taking thoughts from students, whānau and staff, and have decided on four values that we feel are most important at MNS.

They are:

Team - Kotahitanga

Integrity - Ngākau pono

Kindness - Manaakitanga

Achieve - Ako

In Te Reo Māori, TIKA means “to be correct, true, upright, right, just, fair, accurate, appropriate”.

There are several values and behaviours that enable us to achieve (e.g. resilience, determination, responsibility) and to show teamwork (e.g. respect, inclusion, acceptance).

Our next steps as a school are to decide what Team - Kotahitanga, Integrity - Ngākau pono, Kindness - Manaakitanga, Achieve - Ako looks like in different settings, for example: in classrooms, in the playground, in the library etc. These values will then be actively taught to all MNS students.
