Term 1 Inquiry 2023
Our Peope Our Place: Roles and Responsibilities.'
He kai kei aku ringa
There is food at the end of my hands.
This whakatauki signifies resilience, empowerment and hope. It refers to one’s ability to
use the skills and resources they have to create success. It’s about being responsible for
the resources and capabilities one needs to grow and develop.
Our whole school inquiry for the year is 'Our People, Our Place.' This term the children will be involved in learning around:
Building a responsible and cooperative community
Learning about each other and our families
Discovering and discussing how others give back to the community
Representing our ideas in different ways
Designing and developing a resource
Maintaining ongoing care and thought to grow a resource
The first half of the term is getting to know each other, and learning about our families, interests, hobbies, similarities, etc. Setting up our class culture and routines.
The second part of the term we will be looking at the jobs of our parents, and what their roles and responsibilities are - if you are interested in coming and either doing a workshop or talk to a class/syndicate please do get in touch with your child's class teacher. Children will also be looking at what they want to be when they grow up.
After that, we will be looking at 'our place' within the school. Our resources and gardens. The children will be making a plan of action for creating something new in our school - watch this space, the children help to plan our inquiry along the way.
Last year we visited the Miramar Gardens up by the prison, we will hopefully be looking at walking up there again later on in the next two terms.
Also please note that swimming will be coming up later in the term, we will send out a letter closer to the time.
