Term 2…it’s been busy, MNS! This update is dedicated to thank you’s…

Matariki Festival

What a fantastic event this was! A really fun afternoon, bringing the school and wider community together. The MNS students performed some powerful kapa haka, the wananga were fun and informative, and the hāngī was such an incredible process to be a part of. Thank you to our fabulous army of MNS volunteers and staff members – from the mail droppers to the hangi pit lighters, from the potato peelers to those who helped run the wananga. We could not to this without you, and we appreciate you so much. The hāngī (and Sarah’s steamed pudding for those who stayed to eat) was delicious – and we completely sold out. A massive thanks to our own Sarah Macintosh for spearheading this event, and a special mention also to her husband James, who facilitated the hāngī.

A HUGE thank you need to go to our incredible donors. We couldn’t put this event on without their very generous support. Gemma Harrison (Ray White), Annie Newell (Lowe & Co), New World Miramar, Pak n Save Kilbirnie, Strathmore Butchery, Farm Fresh Miramar, Shelley Bay Baker, and Moore Wilsons – very generously donated the large amount of food items required for our hāngī. We are so incredibly grateful for their support.

Working Bee – Miramar North Road Entrance

Thank you to the small but mighty group of volunteers who turned up to make this entrance safer and more visually appealing for our students and families. It now looks fantastic – as the photos show! Gone are the thistles and large bushes that blocked the view from the road, and gone is the unmaintained plum tree which dropped fruit that the kids slipped on. Thank you Nicole Boardman for spearheading this mini project, and a huge thank you to Bunnings Lyall Bay – who VERY generously donated labour, compost, small plants, and tools – which they have donated to the school to keep. Amazing!

Thank you MNS staff

Another tough term with lots of winter illnesses, striking both staff and students. Thank you MNS staff for all that you do for our children – both in the classroom, and behind the scenes. Thank you for showing up each day, and giving our children the best of yourselves. We all appreciate you, and all that you do!

Term 3…

Watch this space, we are still finalising events and dates. Much more fun to come in Term 3, MNS!

Any queries or ideas are always welcome. Please feel free to approach one of us or send us an email, we’d love to hear from you!
