New Digital Technologies Curriculum

Miramar North School —

As of 2020 Digital Technologies is a part of the National Curriculum.

Technology is one of the learning areas in the National Curriculum.  Digital technologies are now integrated into this section.

There are two aspects children learn through a series of progressions:

  • Computational Thinking

"Computational thinking enables students to express problems and formulate solutions in ways that means a computer (an information processing agent) can be used to solve them." - NZ Curriculum

  • Developing and Designing Digital Outcomes.

"In this area, students understand that digital applications and systems are created for humans by humans. They develop increasingly sophisticated understandings and skills for designing and producing quality, fit-for-purpose, digital outcomes. They develop their understanding of the technologies people need in order to locate, analyse, evaluate and present digital information efficiently, effectively and ethically." - NZ Curriculum

Over the last two years, teachers at MNS have been exploring and trialling this new area within technology. Starting this year, every teacher will be planning, teaching and embedding this into their practice.
