Belinda Campbell —

Term 3 is coming to a close in the blink of an eye!

As I write, I can see children involved in Athletics practice, they are happy and thriving. It's that moment of happiness, peace and calm which we all treasure.

I loved being invited to Room 3 to hear about their garden designs as part of their persuasive writing. Their designs were so comprehensive. Room 3 children took into account the location of the gardens and the edible plants that would thrive there; they also included seating and sun protection and pathways to make the gardens more accessible. I was totally persuaded.

Congratulations to Pohutukawa on a creative and well thought out exhibition. It really was awesome. Wonderful comments from the community. We will have some parts of the exhibition in our foyer next term.

The Rimu team needs a big round of applause for managing the intense training schedule for BSLA (Structured Literacy) and applying the theory into practice. The team has made great gains in a short space of time. The children have adapted really well in part due to the fact that our literacy programs have always been phonetically based.

Big shout out to the Kowhai team who are brightening our playground and outdoor spaces. The log area, the TIKA Values signs, the painted signs on concrete and the gardens will all benefit our school for years to come.

Speaking of outdoor spaces, there’s new roofing over room 3 in the holidays and clearlite roofing over rooms 1,2,3. Scaffolding will go up in the first couple of days of the holidays. Thank you to the Kowhai teachers for their support during this time.

Finally, it has been an incredibly busy term with much new learning for us in terms of trauma informed teaching. We have gained a lot of new knowledge through our partnership with the Skylight. Many of the skills we’ve learnt apply to children across our school. All our staff teachers, and teacher aides have participated. This has given us more confidence and informs our practice on a daily basis.

Ka kite ano.

Have a safe and happy holiday everyone.
