MIRAMARVELLOUS:

Miramarvellous was fun last Saturday, it was a pleasure to support the Home and School who work so hard to fundraise for MNS; it was also great to be amongst the community. The bbq teams were awesome, our Kapahaka performed beautifully and the bands were fabulous; how lovely that this is a venue where the homegrown talent have a platform to showcase their talents. Thanks to everyone who helped including Harry and his staff at DVB.

WELLINGTON MUSIC CENTRE COMING SOON TO MNS!

A MESSAGE FROM CARL MENZIES:

Kia Ora,

We are pleased to announce that we will be restarting our Saturday morning music lessons this year with Miramar North School who have kindly agreed to be our new host school. We appreciate the effort that Joyce Adam, Debs Ferrier Kerr and Jude Madill have put into making this happen for the community. It is an enormous task that will benefit so many children.

We have a great team who are working really hard to get the foundations in place to ensure we continue to offer professional and affordable music tuition to children in our Wellington Community.

Some of the instruments taught will be percussion - drums, violin, keyboard; cello, trombone, trumpet and recorder.

Watch out for more updates soon when we will be announcing our music schedule for 2021, how to enrol, class times and much more.

KOWHAI SHOWCASE:

It's always lovely to be privy to the work our children have been involved in during the term. This was made all the better as they told stories through music, visual arts and technology. We can never underestimate the work and talents of our teachers and teacher aides.

THANK YOU:

Many thanks to all our staff for an incredible Term 1. Thank you also to the many parents who have helped us to deliver rich and meaningful learning experiences for our children.

LOST PROPERTY:

We have a large amount of lost property located outside Room 8. Please check for any of your child’s belongings before the end of term. It will all be donated to charity in the holidays.

SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY:

Our whole school cross country is happening in term 2. Please see the attached maps of the courses for year 3, 4, 5 and 6. Mrs Barnes will be in touch early next term to ask for marshalls.

WORLD OF WEARABLE ARTS SHOW (WOW):

On the 31st May and the 1st of June year 5 and 6 students will be parading their Wearable Arts designs down the runway. Tickets will go on sale early in term 2. We look forward to seeing you at the show and sharing our fabulous creations.

SPORTS AT MNS:

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the students who have represented MNS in our sports teams. We are extremely proud of the way you have shown your school values, team spirit and energy. This term we have had students participate in Floorball, Touch Rugby, Future Ferns Netball, Eastern Zone Football tournament and Primary Sport Wellington Futsal Festival..

FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES:

We hope everyone has settled into 2021. We are keeping our fingers crossed that our year continues smoothly without any Covid Alert Level changes.

This term our discussions have focused on our Annual Plan and Property projects. We also received an analysis of our 2020 Teacher wellbeing survey which will inform Joyce and the Senior Management Team throughout the year.

We are very excited to welcome the Wellington Music Centre to MNS. WMC provides affordable music lessons to the community on Saturday mornings, and it will be wonderful to have this on our doorstep and is a perfect fit for our strategic goals. Keep your eyes on the school newsletters for more information.

Our MNS BOT is also going through some changes. We reluctantly farewelled Janine Chung and Jeremy Corkin last year. Amanda Hood, our BOT chair, is leaving the BOT after 5 years. This leaves us with 2 'elected' positions to be filled. You will have seen a notice via email regarding the upcoming by-election.

The role of a board member is a governance role; overseeing strategic direction, policies, and annual budgeting. We meet twice per term and receive reports about progress across various domains. Student achievement and wellbeing is at the centre of every decision we make. Being on the MNS BOT is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about how our wonderful school works and to have a voice. If you are interested in finding out more please get in touch with one of our BOT members.

We also welcomed Louise Poynton on as a selected board member and are looking forward to her coming along to our next meeting early in Term 2.

We hope you enjoy the school holidays and the kids manage to recharge after a long term 1!

MNS BOT

Have a safe and happy holiday everyone.
