Samoan Language Week

Miramar North School —

This week is Samoan Language week. I have been learning about the fans, necklaces and the food.  The fans in Samoa are called ili. They are made of pandanas leaves. The necklaces are made out of two things, seeds and shells. Some of the seeds are big and some of them are small. My favourite food in Samoa is koko laisa, coco and galo.  koko laisa is like a soup with rice.  Coco is a soup and talo (taro) is a vegetable.

The dances:

The fire dance is called the Siva fi. They put fire on the end of the sticks and sometimes they can get burnt.  The fa'ataupati is the slap dance.  It is based on swatting mosquitos. The sasa is based on sitting down while doing a dance. I really liked sharing my stuff with my class.

Congratulations to the Meredith Family

The Meredith boys have recently performed a Samoan dance as a part of their group called Tautua. The boys performed brilliantly, in front of 100's of people. We are so proud of you boys, congratulations to Alazanda who received a scholarship as well. Here is a snapshot of their performance.
