Meet the Rimu team, 2022

Welcome from Sarah

We are looking at an exciting year ahead in Rimu, with the Year 1 and 2 students in the syndicate together. We welcome Hannah Newell to our teaching team and Nicole Boardman as our Teacher Aide. I am looking forward to spending more time with your students in their classes, watching them grow and learn over the year.

Three strategic areas

This year we are focusing on achievement in maths, hauora and well being and how we report to parents. This filters through into our syndicate goals.

Rimu Syndicate

The Rimu Syndicate includes Year 1 and 2, which at this stage of the year, is Room 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13.

Sarah Macintosh - Room 10 teacher - Rimu Team Leader (Kapa haka teacher)

Kia ora koutou. One thing I absolutely love about my job at MNS is teaching kapa haka and seeing the pride that students have when we come together to sing - they know they sound and look good! Teaching New Entrants is a privilege - it is so cool to see the growth children have in that first year of school. They continue to amaze me. Outside of my school life, I have 3 kids (who aren't really kids anymore) who I enjoy hanging out with, traveling with and spending the odd evening arguing over what to watch on Netflix!

I'm looking forward to a great year ahead with an awesome team.

Tessa Rogers - Room 9 teacher - Rimu Support Leader (E-learning team, Maths team)

Tēnā koutou katoa. This is my 6th year at Miramar North School. I really enjoy teaching the New Entrants/Year 1’s - it's awesome to help start them on their learning journey and see their joy and love of learning come to life. I am part of the maths and e-learning teams and have a particular interest in using digital technologies to enhance and create new learning opportunities in the curriculum. When I’m not at school I enjoy playing hockey and floorball and catching up with family and friends. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all this year!

Clair Norris - Room 11 teacher

Kia ora to all the friends and whānau of Miramar North School. Many of you will know me, but to those who don't my name is Clair Norris and I am so lucky to be the teacher in room 11 this year. I truly love what I do and love getting to know the little people in my class and their families. We are a year 1/2 composite class this year and we are building a great team together.

I love to spend my spare time with my family; I have two children at university and one in Year 11, and my pets (a gorgeous Burmese called Milo and a back, fluffy cavoodle called Millie). I also love finding out about other countries and their cultures; skiing; reading; and walking in the bush or by the sea.

Let's make 2022 a fabulous year!

Hannah Newell - Room 12 teacher

Kia ora, this is my first year here at Miramar North School and I am really looking forward to getting to know the students, staff and community here! In 2011, I visited Aotearoa (from England) for my OE and never left! I live in Karori and have taught in Karori for the last 10 years!

I am really excited to be teaching Year 2 for the first time in a little while. I love teaching my students New Zealand Sign Language, using te reo Maori in my classroom and reading books by my favourite authors! In my free time, I am a Brownie leader, and I enjoy tramping with friends, going to the theatre and playing games!

Elisabeth Christy-Jones (Maths team)

Kia ora, this is my third year teaching Year 2 at Miramar North School. I have moved to a new classroom this year and am enjoying getting to know my new class in Room 13. I really enjoy STEAM subjects like science and technology and am always on the lookout for interesting things to put on my science and nature table.

When I’m not at school, I like spending time with my family, I have three grown up children and a baby grand-daughter. I also enjoy spending time in my garden, at the beach and doing crafts.

Christine Jones - Part Time Teacher

I have been teaching for the last thirty years. I have two sons, one who has a disability which encouraged me to teach in both regular as well as Special Needs schools. I am really keen on PE and fitness as I am a keen runner, having run several overseas marathons including Boston, London, New York, Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen and Rome. I also enjoy biking and tramping having walked the Camino through Spain. I relieve at two other schools in Wellington and love teaching at MNS as I always feel so welcome and the children are so keen to learn. I try to make learning fun as I believe that children are more successful when they are enjoying themselves and when they are encouraged to be independent for their own learning.

Nicole Boardman - Teacher Aide

Hi, my name is Nicole Boardman (Nic) and I have just joined the Rimu Syndicate as a Teacher Aide (Mon to Thurs). I’m looking forward to working with the children. I currently have three children at MNS one in year 2, 4 and 6.
