Introducing Graeme Winthrop, MI Member Relations Liaison.

Missions Interlink —

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.”

Auckland based, Graeme's role is to extend the impact of MI in the area. This staff role is currently self-funded, his newsletter is attached to this article as a PDF.

Since giving my heart to the Lord at the age of 14 I have always had a desire to radically follow Jesus.  I was inspired by Hudson Taylor’s biography, Keith Green’s music and student Christian conferences, amongst other influences, to obey the call to go and make disciples of all nations.  Trained as an Electrical Engineer and Project Manager, I have taken the leap of faith into missions three times, serving God through missions in four Asian countries over 20 years.

My involvement in missions has included establishing and leading Business as Mission organisations, leading and serving in NGO’s, serving in the Church, and leading a Christian Counselling Centre.  My project management background has been put to good use in helping me lead organisations, but I also really enjoy sharing the truth of God’s love and the freedom we have in Jesus directly with people, especially in cross cultural settings.

I have seen missionaries thrive and I have seen pain caused and received by missionaries, including myself.  My heart is to see missions done well and God’s love shared in a healthy way to bear long lasting fruit.  As Jesus said in John 15:16a

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.”

We are now in New Zealand for a season and feel to continue in our call to missions here.  When I heard about the work of Missions Interlink, I felt drawn to this organization’s vision of re-kindling interest in missions and finding ways for Mission sending organisations to work together to see the Great Commission fulfilled.  I hope that my skills and experience might be put to good use to serve God’s people who are building God’s Kingdom through missions.
