Week 10, Term 1, 2024
Congratulations to Ben Hague our Assistant Principal who has won the job of Principal at Avalon Intermediate in Wellington starting in term 3. We are excited for Ben and we will celebrate this special achievement in term 2.
The first term of 2024 has almost come to an end. It's hard to believe how fast time has flown by. This month, we have had many exciting things happening in our school, like the commencement of our Tirohangatanga afternoon programme and Hauora. Our April newsletter showcases many things happening in our school and provides useful information for whānau and our community. Our teachers have been undergoing professional development in Pāngarau (mathematics) and writing using the ‘Writers Toolbox’. Unfortunately, our first hui ā-whānau scheduled for Thursday, April 4th, didn’t go ahead due to illness affecting our staff, tamariki and whānau. We look forward to hosting the hui ā-whānau in term 2, where our tamariki can showcase their learning.
Some of the highlights of the term include placing in the top 10 (8/40) for the Kids Literacy Quiz held in Feilding in March. Thank you to Ms Coenders for training our team. Lucy Bennett, Neva Taylor, Oneyka Somarathne and David Fulton represented Tirohanga.
Our Monrad/Tirohanga Rip rugby teams dominated at the recent Mark Donaldson Trophy with our top two teams playing off against each other in the final. The eventual winners won every game without being scored against until playing another Monrad team with wins over North Street school 19-0, Ashhurst 7-0, PNINS 12-0, Wanganui Int 7-0, Ross Int 5-0 and Monrad 4-2.
A friendly reminder: if you haven’t done so already, please take the time to complete our whānau survey. We use the feedback from our whānau to inform our planning and organisation, which is particularly important as we prepare our learning for term 2.
