Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)

PB4L Team —

We are a PB4L kura, and this is about creating a positive environment where students feel safe and nurtured. Our kura environment allows learning to thrive and flourish, with students being rewarded for displaying our school values.

Our kura has schoolwide expectations that help achieve our desired behaviours within the kura. Each classroom writes their own classroom expectations that encourage the desired behaviours within their room. Student voice is an integral part of this writing process and is revisited often over time as the term progresses and pressures of school life changes. Our kura uses a golden ticket system that rewards students for doing the right thing. Each student works towards earning tickets for each of our kura values. When 20 tickets are earned, the student will receive the band that displays this particular value. When all 5 bands are earned, the student receives a Tirohanga badge with their name and the 5 values printed onto it.

We celebrate with our students at school assembly to hand out bands or badges. Without Covid, we would typically invite parents to assembly to celebrate their tamaiti’s success. We also have random prize draws with names drawn out of the ticket boxes at assemblies. Examples of prizes include timezone vouchers, sports equipment, lido passes and more.

Students who receive badges are further celebrated with a choice of rewards such as electric scooter ride out of school, uber eats, or other Principal rewards. Whole school rewards are also celebrated with our students at the end of each term when the target amount of tickets set for that term has been reached. This day is a fun day for all, such as a water day, movies, burgers etc.
