Auahatanga (Creativity)

Isabelle Brown —

"I've really enjoyed my Auahatanga, which is clay making. It's been a great experience to be able to sculpt something just from our imaginations and to be able to use the clay somewhere outside of the tech rooms. The teachers are Whaea Kat and Whaea Maddi, and they've been really fun and helpful. So far, I've made a cactus and a snowman out of air-dry clay. It's a bit messy but very entertaining".

Our Wednesday afternoon Auahatanga programmes have kicked off to a great start. Auahatanga consists of a series of 7 lessons, and these are centred around creativity, Ngā Toi/The Arts and the Hangarau Matihiko/Digital Technologies curriculum. Our tamariki selected their four preferred choices, and they will get to experience each selection throughout 2022.

This year our creative and passionate team have provided our tamariki with 23 different options to choose from, these are Anime Drawing, Art Makers, Taonga Māori, Bringing 2D Sketches to Life, Clay Making, Coding, Creating a Videogame, Constellation Art, Wood Work, K Nex, D.I.Y Board Games, Dance, Hand Sewing Toys, Mahi ā-ringa, Māori Digital Art, Painting/Collaborative Art, Pasifika Art, Product Design, School of Rock (Band), Stop Motion, Survival School, Taku Pākihi (My Business) and Upcycling Clothing Hacks.

Although Auahatanga has been put on hold for the next couple of weeks due to our COVID-19 Response, we anticipate the continued success of this kaupapa, and we look forward to celebrating these successes with our hapori (community).
