WAKATIPU EXCHANGE

Kate Richards —

Last Tuesday, the 20th of August, our students took to Wakatipu High School to participate in the annual sport exchange.

This year, we travelled to Queenstown, where we were greeted with a haka performance by Wakatipu students. This sport exchange has always been very competitive and you could feel the friendly tension from the beginning.

The day started off successfully for Mount Aspiring College. We were put under pressure in the Senior Boys Volleyball from the get go, and despite being an extremely close game, we deservingly came away on top. Most of the students participating in the exchange were watching this game so it really set the enthusiastic yet competitive tone for the rest of the day.

Unfortunately the weather was not on our side with strong winds and pouring rain, however, everyone still stuck to their game plan and maintained a great attitude.

Both the MAC Football and Rugby teams put in an impressive effort despite the horrible conditions and we came away with both losses and wins. Unfortunately, but deservingly, Wakitipu won the overall competition with a final score of 4-10. It was also the first time many of our students had visited Wakatipu's new High School. It was interesting seeing the new layout and facilities the school had to offer and we were very appreciative to have been given the chance to play there.

Overall, every team played fairly and respectably. There was great sportsmanship across all of the games and most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun.
