YEAR 13 CALCULUS
These are the final results for our Year 13 Calculus students who did Math199 online - it's a first year engineering Maths paper and very difficult! Given that Hugo, Ben, Campbell and James got A+ passes, this will see them awarded a $5000 scholarship by Canterbury University. Ben and Campbell in particular did exceedingly well, with final results of 98% and 96% respectively.
WILLIAM PIKE
We are thrilled to have a cohort of MAC students graduate from the William Pike Challenge this month. The William Pike Challenge Award is a personal development programme designed to provide opportunities for students to develop their courage, teamwork, resilience, compassion, pride and determination. To complete the award students need to complete a programme of community service, outdoor activities and passion project(s).
There are approximately 100 schools offering the WPCA, and 2020 was the first year that the WPCA has been offered at MAC. We started the year with about 35 students, and as of this week 29 have finished, and a few more are on track to complete their hours by the end of the term. A brilliant effort.
This is a really outstanding achievement because it requires a huge commitment from the students. Our WPCA students have invested over 400 volunteer hours into our community this year, and learned new skills or started new sports and hobbies. They have also participated in a selection of challenging outdoor activities including rock climbing, kayaking, abseiling, rafting, and the Wildwire experience.
The programme will be offered again in 2021. There will be about 40 places available. A letter will be sent out to families of current Year 7 students next week to invite expressions of interest in participating.
But this week let’s celebrate the success of the 2020 Year 8 William Pike Challenge graduates.
