ACADEMIC

Mount Aspiring College —

Year 13 students Izzy Foskett and Josh Moody have been selected to attend NZ Science Olympiad training camps.

Congratulations to Year 13 students Izzy Foskett and Josh Moody who have been offered places at the New Zealand Science Olympiad training camps in Auckland during the upcoming school holidays.

Izzy is one of 30 students from around New Zealand to be offered a place at the New Zealand Chemistry Olympiad, while Josh has been selected to attend the New Zealand International Biology Olympiad training camp.

To be selected for this camp, Izzy undertook an exam last year, and based on her results, she was asked to join the wider training group. Over the past two months, she has been completing a series of problem-based assignments which culminated in a training camp selection exam.

Josh is one of 25 students from across the country to be offered a place at the camp, and his selection follows completion of a tutorial programme over the summer break and achieving high results in an assessment.

At the camps in Auckland, Izzy and Josh will attend lectures, labs and workshops culminating in practical and theory exams. Following the camps, teams of four students will be selected to represent New Zealand in July at the International Chemistry Olympiad in Saudi Arabia, and the International Biology Olympiad in Kazakhstan.

Congratulations Izzy and Josh on your amazing achievements - we are all very proud of you!

Year 8 Snow Farm Camp

In March, our Year 8 class went on camp to Snow Farm where we walked about 5km to get up to the Musterers Hut. We drove up to the snow farm visitors' parking, had morning tea, and started walking to the hut. On the way we passed lots of wetlands and a couple of stopping points, such as a big rock with some benches and Meadow Hut, which was around 800m to 1km from the Musterers Hut. When we reached the hut, we set up our beds and rooms and had some afternoon tea. We then went and did the rogaine (orienteering), which my team won. After that, we went back and just hung out at the hut, and did some quizzes and things like that. We had lots of good meals and food for dinner and dessert, such as macaroni, sausage rolls, pasta, and lots more. After having dinner and dessert, we went out and played games of spotlight and tag.
