PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Nicola Jacobsen —

Here, Principal Nicola Jacobsen shares her thoughts.

Kia ora,

Congratulations to Powder Chutes who have won the inaugural Thrash More competition. The band comprises lead guitarist Clarke West (18), bassist Otis Murphy (16), lead vocalist Henry McConnell (18) and drummer Archie Orbell (18). They are half-way through recording their self-funded debut album and plan to spend the $7000 prize on completing the album. The band has kindly nominated the $3000 cash prize to go to the Mount Aspiring College music department - which we are very grateful for. I would like to thank Mat Doyle for his support of the band.

Another congratulations, but this time to the Year 8 students for their excellent sustainable Christmas market. I really enjoyed seeing the range of items that had been handmade, upcycled, and the great ideas for games as well. Thanks to the Year 8 teachers who have supported the students in class with their business ideas, and to the parents and caregivers who have helped to make this a real success. It was great to see so many teachers, parents, caregivers and community members making the most of the market on Thursday after school.

The Year 10 students have a great week ahead of them next week with camps and local activities. It is a great way for the students to finish the year with some challenge and the chance to engage in a range of different activities outside of their classes. Thanks to the staff who have organised the camp and local activities, and we hope everyone has a safe and fun week.

Toitū te whenua, toitū te tangata.

The land is strong, the people are fulfilled.

Ngā mihi,

Nicola Jacobsen
