MAC Mountain Biking Cross Country Championships
Students put in outstanding performances at the MAC Mountain Biking Cross Country Champs last Wednesday at Deans Bank. Students completed a 12km loop in the competitive category and there was something for everyone with a non-competitive 6km loop. House points were extremely close with Barker coming out on top with 20 points, Iron a mere one point behind with 19, Pisa 18 and Roy 17.
Our riders enjoyed a beautiful sunny day with great track conditions and achieved fantastic results.
A big thank you Lincoln Bruce, Nicole Danielson, Gareth Hodges, Dan Cullen and his OP students, and the awesome parents for making this event a success.

MAC Juniors
For the first travelling game for the MAC Juniors, we travelled to Balclutha to take on South Otago High School. The boys led from the beginning with some epic tackles by our man of the match Frank McSweeney. The forwards withheld some solid attack from South Otago High School and then gained valuable metres through the middle. The back line showcased tactical kick and chase which led to our first try. SOHS finished well and scored twice in the last ten minutes. Tough loss but huge learnings and the boys were proud of their efforts.
31-24 to SOHS
Next game is 11:15am vs Wakatipu at MAC before the MAC 1st XV game
Contributed report.
1st XV
At the start of the game, both teams came out firing in a tough, physical battle. Otago Boys High School managed to edge ahead early, taking a 10-5 lead into halftime. MAC’s only try in the first half came from Cody Gemmell, who powered through the OBHS defence to keep the score close.
In the second half, MAC’s fitness began to shine. With sharp draw-and-pass execution and better ball movement, the team scored three well-constructed tries by Archie Bruce, Sam Soper and Myles Nichol. The momentum clearly swung in MAC’s favour as they took control of the game.
Although OBHS added to their score, MAC’s dominance in the second half sealed a well-earned 24-15 victory.
