STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Newsletter Editor —

Here we celebrate student achievement and showcase activities our students are involved in around college.

WILLIAM PIKE CHALLENGE

Last weekend a group of eighteen Year 8 students doing the William Pike Challenge participated in a 3 hour rogaine at Bendigo Station (photo above). It was a challenging and fun course with lots of problem solving involved. Thanks to the parents and Level 3 OP students who came and helped on the day by following the teams around the course.

SHOWQUEST 2023

Showquest is Aotearoa’s biggest performing arts competition for schools. This event challenges students to create a performance centred around a theme that combines Art, Music, Dance, Drama, Culture and Technology. This year's performance will be in Invercargill on Friday 19 May.

MAC VISIT TO NZDF BASE IN CROMWELL

Last Monday evening, 5 students from Mount Aspiring College (Freja Malmo, Joe Gardner, Oliver Cohen, Max Knight, Otis Oxley) attended the information evening of the New Zealand Defence Forces in Cromwell.

Held at the new NZDF base facility in Cromwell, the talk included a presentation of three recruiters, one from each military branch Army, Navy, and Air Force, about their personal career and experiences and what opportunities the Defence forces can offer to the students from military training, apprenticeships to scholarships for university studies. Later on, the three soldiers opened it up for any questions from the students and also offered 1-on-1 chats with each individually.

The evening gave all 5 students a great inside view on what it means to be a soldier in the NZDF and how they can benefit from choosing this career. Thanks to Charlotte Lucas from the MAC Careers Team for organising this trip and a special thank you to Blair Ross, Lachie Haddon and Sam Martin for leading this evening.
