STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Newsletter Editor —

Here we celebrate student achievement and showcase activities our students are involved in around college.

CALLING ALL CREATIVES!

All students are invited to design a mural for our school’s north block to inspire our school community for years to come.

THE BRIEF

Create a mural to inspire the school community. The mural must incorporate one (or all) of the school's values, represented visually and/or with words.

TIMELINE

Please submit entries to Miss Rebecca Hembrow by Monday 27 March. Our Principal Mrs Jacobsen will select the top three entries and the school community will be invited to select the winning design between 3 and 6 April. The winning work will be transferred onto the north block ready to be enjoyed by everyone in Term 2.

TOP ART

There is a display of Level 3 Art portfolios, selected by NZQA from schools nationwide, that evidence excellence. There are examples of Painting, Photography and Design panels. The display is set up in the new Wharenui space near the entry to the school. You can ask for directions at the school office.

There is protocol around not wearing shoes in the space so you are asked to remove your footwear before entering. As they are the originals, you are asked to respect the work. The display is on until Wednesday 29 March between 9.00am and 4.00pm. We hope you take this opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the quality of the work on display.

FESTIVAL OF COLOUR

Elephant Talk - Student tickets

Come and support our music and drama students, along with a group of MAC alumni, who are collaborating on this original piece as part of the Festival's Community performance.

The show explores the ongoing effects that technology and the pandemic have had on the next generation of young adults and their ability to connect and move through awkward moments. The audience listens to intimate conversations between friends and observes them in all their clanging awkwardness. As you make your way to a live fundraising concert you plug into a playlist of original songs on your device and ponder the importance of those vulnerable yet poignant conversations.

Tickets are still available for all shows from Monday 27 March to Saturday 1 April, with a special student ticket price of $15 for Tuesday evening, so grab your friends and come along!

MAC SENIOR STUDENTS ART EXHIBITION

We welcome the community to view selected works from our senior students, present and past, at Alice Herald’s Studio Space in the Precinct. Works from senior painting and art design classes will be on display during the Festival of Colour until the end of the term. The Studio is open to the public from 10.00am-3.00pm every day. Please come and view works amongst Alice Herald’s bespoke jewellery designs. We thank Alice for generously letting us use this space and for giving our students the opportunity to see their work in a real gallery setting.

SHOWQUEST 2023

Showquest is Aotearoa’s biggest performing arts competition for schools. This event challenges students to create a performance centred around a theme that combines Art, Music, Dance, Drama, Culture and Technology. This year's performance will be in Invercargill on Friday 19 May.
