CHALLENGE WĀNAKA INTERMEDIATE TRIATHLON

Please see the information below from Challenge Wānaka about their Intermediate Triathlon Event (for Year 7/8 students in 2024) to be held February 2024. We would LOVE to see as many of our students as possible involved in this amazing local event. The students can participate either as an individual or as a team. If students are needing help to find some team mates, please let us know and we will try to help with the process. Please note that they have made a change to the registration process for this event. In the past, entries have been open until one week before the event. THIS YEAR the entries will close on the 1 December.

It has come to that time of the year again to start thinking about Intermediate Challenge Wānaka! We are excited to be returning to Glendhu Bay and look forward to welcoming you all to the event.

Entries for local students already attending or enrolled for 2024 open on Wednesday 1 November and close on Friday 1 December 2023.

We have decided to go for an early registration this year to assist with planning due to the high demand for the event. It also allows the children to prepare over the summer months for the race if they are keen to train. Any new enrolments to the area will need to speak with your school for further information about how to register for the event after the closing date.

Please click here for race information and to register for the event

It is important that you read all the ‘Event Information’ which includes Race Information, Race-Day Briefing, Race Rules and the latest start times, these can all be found on the Intermediate Page of the Challenge Wanaka website.

GOLF

Zac McIntyre, Raphael Anderson, Lucas Nichol and Jordy Cameron competed in the Otago Intermediate Schools Golf Championship Final at Lawrence Golf Club on Friday, the 10th of November. Each school earned their spot in the final via their district qualifying earlier in the year. 38 teams played in the regional qualifying all over Otago, with nine teams making it into the final.

The first teams to qualify came out of South Otago. Blue Mountain College showed its strength as they claimed first and second place in the South Otago qualifying, held at Balclutha Golf Club.

In the metro qualifying, a strong Balmacewen team took first place, shooting 38 over nine holes at Twelve Oaks Golf Club, proving they were a serious contender for the final. Both teams from Taieri College tied for second place with scores of 43, each earning a spot in the final.

At Dunstan Golf Club, Mount Aspiring prevailed to take first place, followed by Roxburgh Golf Club. Remarkables and Arrowtown secured their spots via qualifying at Frankton Golf Club.

The nine teams that secured a spot in the final battled it out on a sunny day at Lawrence Golf Club. Mount Aspiring came into the final in good form and produced the goods winning the whole tournament! In a rolling ambrose format, the team posted a score of 43 for nine holes, winning by 12 shots over Roxburgh School in 2nd place and Taieri College in third place.

TENNIS

Last Friday four of our Years 7 and 8 tennis players competed in the Southern Primary and Intermediate Schools playoffs. Laia Mactaggart, Holly Radford, Poppy Jackson and Matthew Jurczyluk all competed against the strongest intermediate school players from Southland and Otago. Our students played some fantastic tennis against tough opponents and had a great time.

They all carried on over the weekend to represent Southern Lakes in the Southern Junior Teams event, competing against Southland, Otago and South Canterbury.

Special congratulations must go to Laia Mactaggat who after a successful weekend of tennis in Dunedin, has qualified for the South Island finals later this month in Timaru and also the Nationals U14 tournament in Christchurch in December. Well done Laia!
