STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Mount Aspiring College —

Here we celebrate student achievement and showcase activities our students are involved in around college.

TE HAUTONGA SECONDARY SCHOOL KAPA HAKA COMPETITION

Eleven students represented MAC at Te Hautonga Secondary School Kapa Haka Competition in Invercargill last weekend. Te Hautonga is the Otago/Southland Secondary schools Kapa Haka regionals event held every two years. Two groups then go on to represent the region at the national Kapa Haka competition in Nelson next year.

Our students performed as non-competitive at the event. In the lead up to the event the students mostly practiced in the weekends. Te Hautonga gave our students an opportunity to perform and watch groups at a competitive level of performance, and they aim to go back and enter as a competitive group next year.

We would like to thank everyone for their support to our Kapa, Te Mākahi o Tititea. Our next performance will be in Queenstown next term for Central Lakes Polyfest.

WORLD VISION SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP SUMMIT

Mount Aspiring College has been identified as one of Aotearoa’s top-performing secondary schools in the 2023 World Vision 40 Hour Challenge. As a result, Mount Aspiring College has been awarded a place at World Vision’s Senior Scholarship Summit in Auckland.

This provides Mount Aspiring College with the opportunity to select a current Year 12 student to attend three days of global education, leadership development and social action training. The student will be part of a group of 35 hosted by World Vision from Sunday 21 to Wednesday 24 January 2024.

This is an all-expenses-paid trip to Auckland that both rewards our kura and further invests in the leadership development of a student who will have an influential role when they enter Year 13 next year. View this video to see what previous students have said about this opportunity.

Contact Mrs Arlidge (arlidges@mtaspiring.school.nz) for further information. Applications are due by Friday 8th September.
