Anyone interested in the Biathlon programme must be competent on their skis.

MAC Girls 1st XV vs Dunstan Girls 1st XV

Now going into the second round of the rugby season, MAC 1st XV girls played Dunstan College again on Wednesday night. We had a great turn out of supporters - as per usual - which was really awesome as it was our last home game. Although we lost 45-21, we never dropped our lip or gave up! We were focused, disciplined and excited. All the girls came off with smiles and we all supported each other throughout the game. In fact, we went into the game with 13 players and two fill-ins. This was astonishing to come back with this on the scoreboard against the top team in the competition. The tries were scored by Meg Hoyland, Piper Wolfe and Jodie Wellwood. All tries were successfully converted by Kate Watson. Players of the day were received by Becca Blanc and Jodie Wellwood. Both played extremely well and are consistent with their role in the game. Jodie always has a positive, outgoing attitude and motivation to learn new skills. Becca is an amazing asset to the team, she has strong defensive skills and is always showing leadership qualities with the other new players. Thank you to our sponsors, coaches, managers and referees, the competition requires a lot of help and therefore we are so grateful for all the support.

MAC Boys 1st XV vs Southland Boys 1st XV

On Saturday MAC First XV travelled down to Invercargill to play Southland Boys 2nd XV. We knew that this was going to be a tough game from the onset, and we got what we expected. With a sloped field and very windy/raining conditions, it became a territory battle that involved a lot of kicking. Playing downwind in the first half we got out to an early 3-0 lead with a penalty to Tom Sides. Southland struck back, scoring from a maul, and then kicking a penalty to make it 8-3. We answered with Flynn Phillips scoring in the corner on the back of a charging run by Hugh Ragg with Tom adding the extra 2. Going into the second half we were pinned on our line. Despite some really solid goal-line defence, we let in two converted tries in the second half, whilst only being capable of adding 3, in another penalty kick to Tom. Unfortunately, in conditions that made it incredibly difficult to escape our own half, poor line-out execution cost us our chances in the second half. Having said that, there was a noticeable improvement in running lines, game control and many other things we can take into next week and hopefully continue building upon. Thanks to coaches Wayne Enoka and Jason Clarke, as well as our manager Sally Soper, for helping to organise the trip down/back. And of course, a special thanks to our sponsors.
