Hockey Team trials

Trials for the 1st XI mixed hockey tournament team are held on Thursday 17 June from 5.00-6.00pm at the hockey turf at the Rec Centre.  Open to senior students in years 11-13. If you are not available that day but would still like to be considered for the team please contact Simon Nyhof (nyhofs@mtaspiring.school.nz).


Basketball Year 9 &10 Boys Team Trials

The Central Otago half day basketball competition is held on Tuesday 29 June in Queenstown and the Central Otago junior basketball competition will be played over six weeks in term 3.  The school hopes to enter two boys teams and one girls team into both competitions. 


Halberg Foundation

The Halberg Activity Fund provides grants to young kiwis who have a primarily physical impairment. Those grants help fund the cost of equipment, lessons, coaching or camps.

Te Kīwai Funding

Te Kīwai is available to tamariki and rangatahi between 5-18 living in Te Waipounamu, Rakiura and Rekohu/Wharekauri, and is designed to help remove barriers to participation in sport and recreation. Each tamariki or rangatahi is eligible for up to $300.00 per year to contribute to:

  • Clothes and shoes e.g. uniforms, sneakers, boots
  • Equipment e.g. bats, racquets, balls
  • Participation costs e.g. membership fees, class fees, club dues
  • Transportation e.g. fuel costs, bus tickets

You can apply on behalf of tamariki/rangatahi in your whānau, in a club or team you manage, or who are participating in a marae/rūnaka event or wānanga you are running. Group applications are capped at 15 tamariki/rangatahi per team.

SPORTS RESULTS

South Island Schools Karate Championships

On 5 June Cameron Tippett, Taylor MacRae, Cory Enoka and Ryan Enoka competed at the South Island Schools Karate Championship held in Mosgiel and each student came away with a medal. Cameron Tippett achieved a silver medal in the Year 7 & 8 +43kg development Kumite. Taylor MacRae, who also competed in Year 7 & 8 development, won two silver medals from Kata and Kumite. Cory Enoka took out both gold medals in the Year 7 & 8 development Kata and -43kg Kumite. Ryan Enoka competed in the U14 Premier division and earned a gold medal for an exceptionally high scoring Kata and then also secured gold for strongly fought Kumite. All four students work extremely hard to earn their medals, well done all!

Following the success of this championship all four students went on to represent their club in the Otago Southland karate tournament on Sunday, and again came away with a haul of medals between them.
